Surpassing Your Expectations

Stain Removal & Acid Washing

Most swimming pools of the Lower Mainland incorporate a swimming pool surface made of white or colored plaster. Being a porous material, the plaster typically stains over the years due to organic matter, calcification or products added to the water. Regular maintenance and aggressive brushing slows the process, but does not eliminate it. As long as the plaster is relatively smooth and in good condition, the plaster can be restored close to its original condition through acid washing. This process has varying results, with the best outcome occurring on non-colored pools. Following is a summary of the process:

  1. Inspect the swimming pool or spa for viability towards an acid wash. Check the condition of the plaster as well as the presence of ground water.

  2. Empty the pool and perform an acid wash using a dilute acid solution. We carefully monitor the acidity of the cleaning solution, plaster and process results to minimize plaster burn.

  3. Neutralize the acid on the pool surface as well as the water being pumped out.

  4. Refill the pool and balance the chemicals.

The process for colored plaster may incorporate a slightly different process. We don’t always empty the pool, but instead do an "in-pool" acid wash. We manipulate the water chemistry, pushing it to an acidic state causing it to become very aggressive. We then aggressively brush the pool twice a day to remove the staining and calcification. This provides results similar to mainstream acid washing, but minimizes the color bleeding and streaks associated with non white pools.

If you would like to revitalize your pool or spa, but don't want to engage in expensive replastering call one of our knowledgeable staff. We will conduct an inspection free of charge and provide you with viable options.
